Lazzarini: UNRWA is at risk of being dismantled due to stopping its funding

The Commissioner -General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, has confirmed that UNRWA is at risk of dismantling due to the cessation of its funding.

“The United Nations agency has become at risk of dismantlement , after several donors stopped their funding” Lazzarini said in an interview with the Swiss network RTS on Saturday.

He pointed out that the fate of the Palestinians in Gaza, who are going through a humanitarian crisis that is unprecedented at all, is at stake.

Lazzarini stressed that the Israeli occupation’s demands to dismantle the agency would lead to the sacrifice of an entire generation of children and cause  future conflicts.

The UNRWA official Lazzarini warned yesterday that “a major famine is facing Gaza Strip, as children are dying of hunger and thirst”.
