The Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinians Refugee (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, affirmed that it is still possible to avoid the famine in Gaza Strip if there is a real political will to do so.
Lazzarini said in a post on the X platform: ” Our calls to send food aid to the northern Gaza Strip were rejected, but avoiding famine in Gaza is possible through real political will to access meaningful assistance and protection, and the coming days will once again test our humanity and our shared values”.
Lazzarini indicated that the last time the food aid was delivered to northern Gaza was on January 23, adding:” since that date we have constantly warned, along with the other UN agencies, of a looming famine, and demanded the urgent regular delivery of humanitarian aid”.
Lazzarini had previously confirmed that the agency has reached the point of collapse especially after a number of Western countries cut off funding for it.
