Lazakiat is spectacular dessert composed of many layers of paper-thin crepes, seasoned with turmeric, ginger, anise and black sesame with a creamy sauce made from sesame halva, and garnished with fried walnut pieces.
Lazakiat is a traditional food in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
It is a popular food and it’s very old, Syrians always cook it in parties and feasts. It is the main breakfast for farmers, especially before they go to their lands.
Ingredients
1 kg flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon anise
Pinch turmeric
Blossom water
Water as needed to knead
2 teaspoons yeast
How to prepare his sauce:
1 liter milk
1/2 kg halva
Preparation
1-Mix all ingredients well and leave to ferment well then bake on a gridle and flip on both sides.
2- The sauce: In a saucepan, whisk milk and halva while continuously stiring over low heat then turn off before boiling.
3- Put over each layer a little bit of ghee and sprinkle it with a little sugar, then spread it on all layers and pour the sauce made of milk and halva.
4- Sprinkle walnut or any kind of nuts on the surface. Serve it hot.
