Lavrov: What the United States is doing in Syria violates Resolution 2254

On January 18th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the US occupation of lands in Syria, plundering its wealth and supporting separatist militias violates UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

“We have repeatedly expressed our assessments and official positions regarding the developments of the situation around Syria and everyone signed Security Council Resolution 2254, which stipulates the need to respect the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria,” Lavrov said during his annual press conference in Moscow.

Lavrov indicated that the United States is doing all it can to prevent humanitarian aid from reaching Syria, implemented the so-called (Caesar Act) and prevented international organizations from participating in the international conference on the return of refugees held in Damascus last November.

Lavrov expressed Russia’s deep concern about the actions of the United States and its allies in undermining international security, as they used the Corona pandemic to increase pressure methods and impose more sanctions on several countries.

Lavrov called on the United States and the West to realize that the era of imposing dictates and hegemony has ended and that cooperation and respect for state sovereignty is the basis for building international relations.

Lavrov indicated that it is unlikely that the essence of US policy towards Russia will change under the administration of President-elect Joe Biden.

Lavrov pointed out that the aim of the West’s statements on arresting Russian politician Alexei Navalny is to distract attention from the crisis in which the liberal model occurred.
