Lavrov: West Justifies Terrorism in Syria despite Anti Terror International Agreements

 MOSCOW- “The West justifies terrorism in Syria despite all international agreements on combating terrorism,” Russia’s Foreign Minster Sergey Lavrov said on Monday, addressing students at Moscow University.

Lavrov asserted that the crisis in Syria crossed the borders to reach Iraq which is getting assistance from the West to fight terrorism; assistance that is not provided to Syria.

“The most notable result of the so-called “Arab Spring” is the increase and escalation of terrorist activities,” Lavrov said, pointing out that international agreements relating to Syria have been ignored for more than two years.

The Russian top diplomat reiterated that terrorism fighting should be achieved through joint and concerted political efforts in the Middle East, noting that the world can’t bet on the use of force in the 21st century.

On Friday, Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif affirmed their countries’ determination to combat terrorism everywhere and reiterated that no alternative for political and diplomatic solution to the crisis in Syria.
