Lavrov: We will not agree on any settlement in the Middle East that does not include the establishment of the State of Palestine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed that Russia will not agree to any “settlement” agreements in the Middle East that do not include the establishment of the State of Palestine.

The RT website quoted Lavrov as saying in a speech before the Russian Federation Council: “The failure to establish a Palestinian state is the only and main factor that fuels extremism throughout the Middle East,” noting that “there are 75-year-old resolutions stipulating the establishment of the State of Palestine”.

Lavrov added: “Given the position adopted by the West now, it becomes clear that it has no intention of establishing a Palestinian state, and that it, along with the current Israeli leadership, does not want to unify the Gaza Strip with the West Bank as stipulated in the decision to establish the State of Palestine”. He pointed out that despite the appeals of Russia and a number of countries, Israel continues to establish Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Al Quds”.

The Russian minister pointed out that the United States has long refused to work within the framework of the Quartet for the settlement in the Middle East (Russia, the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union) and want to find a solution “to its liking” to the Palestinian issue and invent something that will be called “later” as a “Palestinian state.”
