Lavrov: We Agreed with Saudi Arabia on Creating Environment for Resuming Dialogue between Syrian Government, “Opposition”

MOSCOW, (ST)- Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed that there are some differences between Russia and Saudi Arabia on the implementation of Geneva /1/ Document, but “most of our stacnes are almost identical”.

Lavrov, who was speaking on Tuesday during a press conference with his Saudi couterpart Adel al-Jubeir in Moscow, said “we will continue dicussing the Russian initiative on the establishment of a regional anti-ISIS coalition.

“We have agreed on coordinating steps to create suitable environment as to resume dialogue between the Syrian government and all spectra of Syrian opposition under the patronage of the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura.

Lavrov pointed out that his meeting with al-Jubeir and the US State Secretary John Kerry in Qatar two weeks ago discussed the situation in the Middle East and ways of solving the crisis in Syria. He asserted that “today’s meeting was very useful in terms of enhancing the points of understanding reached in Doha.”

 He clarified that the Russian-Saudi stance is unified on the need to unify efforts aiming to fight ISIS terrorist organization and other terrorist groups which pose threat not only to Russia and Saudi Arabia but to the entire world.
