Lavrov: The world is witnessing the end of Western hegemony

Moscow, (ST)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the world is now witnessing the end of Western hegemony, while new centers of development are getting stronger.

Lavrov said in a statement via video on Wednesday to  the participants in the Forum of Young Diplomats from Eurasian Countries held under the title “Diplomacy of the New Multipolar World”: “At a time when we are observing the end of Western hegemony over the world, new centers of development are getting stronger and gaining greater momentum in Eurasia, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.”

Lavrov called on those involved in international relations to take into account that the formation of a more just, balanced and multicentre world order is a geopolitical reality.

Lavrov made it clear that it is important for cooperation and interests to be compatible and far from competition, and that the emerging multipolarity must not to be based on military, political and economic confrontation between the main international players.

Lavrov also noted the important role of diplomacy that is based on the principles of international law, the most important of which is the United Nations Charter, respect for the cultural and civilization diversity of the world, and the right of peoples to choose the means of their development.
