Moscow (ST): Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that the implementation of the Russian special operation in Ukraine is in accordance with an article in the Charter of the United Nations, pointing out that Russia has notified the Security Council of this.
Sputnik quoted Lavrov as saying today in an interview at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum: “The special military operation is being carried out on the basis of Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, which provides for the right to individual and collective self-defense, which was notified to the UN Security Council immediately.”
Lavrov pointed out that Western countries are attempting to accuse Russia of violating international law despite the fact that “it was itself the one who ignored and violated international covenants in Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya, and it was the one that waged wars of aggression against these countries and tried to do the same in Syria.”
Lavrov added, “Western elites are trying to divide the world into democratic and authoritarian regimes, and their (exclusivity syndrome) appeared through the explicit racist statement of the head of the European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, that (Europe is a paradise, and the rest of the world is a forest).”
