Lavrov: The West failed to isolate Russia and admitted that sanctions had backfired on it

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov asserted that the West had failed to isolate Russia and admitted that the sanctions it had imposed had a negative impact on it, causing inflation and raising prices.

Lavrov made it clear during today’s speech at the Moscow Institute of International Relations that the West is waging a hybrid war against Russia after it failed to turn Ukraine into an enemy country, and that the last thing it cares about is Ukraine’s interests.

Lavrov pointed out that the European leaders openly said that their goal is to harm every Russian citizen, but the sanctions they imposed harmed them as inflation rose sharply, national currencies fell, food and energy prices rose to a record level. Because of this many Europeans began to demand the lifting of the sanctions that caused harm to them and not to Russia.

Lavrov pointed out that today’s world is multipolar and that many countries reject the hegemony of the West and the unipolar system that it wants to preserve, indicating that 80 percent of countries did not engage in Western sanctions against Russia despite the pressures and blackmail.

Regarding the Kiev forces’ bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear plant, Lavrov stressed that Russia is doing its utmost to ensure the plant’s operation safely, expressing hope that the Ukrainian bombing will not lead to a nuclear disaster.

Lavrov noted that there are countries that want to thwart the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency to the Zaporozhye plant, stressing the need to expedite the mission’s visit to the plant and to perform its tasks objectively.

With regard to dialogue with the United States, Lavrov said that Moscow does not rely on Washington and its allies after all the sanctions they have imposed, but it will not cut off communication to ensure its interests.
