Lavrov: The US blocks the reconstruction process in Syria

Moscow (ST):  Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated that the United States is present illegally in Syria and is putting pressure on other countries to prevent humanitarian aid from arriving and obstructing the reconstruction process.

During a press conference with his Afghan counterpart in Moscow today, Lavrov said: “The American forces are present in Syria illegally and violate international law and UN resolutions. We have repeatedly expressed our reservations due to the measures taken by Washington in the Syrian territories, including  Al-Tanf region and northeastern Syria.”

Lavrov pointed out that the United States is occupying lands in Syria, plundering Syrian oil, and supporting separatist militias, in flagrant violation of Security Council Resolution No. 2254, which stipulates commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, as well as pressuring other countries to prevent humanitarian aid from arriving and obstructing the reconstruction process in Syria. 

The permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, stressed during the Security Council session yesterday the necessity to end the politicization of humanitarian work in Syria and support its efforts in the humanitarian and development fields in order to allow the return of the internally and externally displaced.
