Lavrov: Security Council must help calm tensions in Middle East

Moscow (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the UN Security Council should help calm tensions in the Middle East after the recent escalation.

Lavrov said at a joint press conference with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya that the Israeli attack on Iran constitutes a difficult situation, hoping that the Security Council can help in one way or another to calm this situation.

“Based on the proposal of Algeria, China and Russia, the Council should this evening consider Iran’s call regarding what happened and work to avoid the worst-case scenario because its possibility still exists”, Lavrov added.

Lavrov stressed that: “We need to work to reach a ceasefire in the Palestinian territories and in Lebanon, and we also need to agree on how to stabilize the situation in Lebanon in the long term and certainly solve the humanitarian problems, which are worsening there.”
