Lavrov: Russia will work hard to prevent any possible encroachments on Syria’s territorial integrity
Moscow, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday affirmed that the US forces are illegally present in Syria and they are supporting terrorist organizations in the areas they occupy.
Lavrov said during today’s speech at the Primakov Forum in Moscow: “We will continue to support the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and prevent the implementation of any separatist agendas in the country”.
“We will work hard to prevent any possible encroachments on Syria’s territorial integrity,” Lavrov reiterated.
Lavrov said that the American forces are illegally present on Syrian territories, and continue to support terrorist organizations there. He indicated that they support the so-called “SDF” militia and its separatist agenda in the Al- Jazira region.
Lavrov called on this militia to dialogue with the Syrian state and not to listen to Washington and the West.
Lavrov added that we will strive hard to prevent the implementation of any separatist agendas targeting the unity of Syria and its territorial integrity. He pointed out that the guarantor countries of the Astana formula (Russia, Iran and Turkey) affirm in all their meetings their firm commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.
Lavrov stated that Turkey has not yet recognized its mistakes in Syria and it did not abide by the Astana understandings and the Sochi agreement and did not move the terrorists from the de-escalation zone in Idlib, noting the importance of dialogue between Turkey and Syria to ensure border security.
Lavrov also said that the West has tried to destabilize the energy and food markets and control the natural resources of countries to consolidate its hegemony, but the world is changing and heading towards multipolarity.
He added that NATO has failed to achieve its goals, and its policy is not only against Russia, but also against many other countries.
The minister pointed out that the principle of the indivisibility of security stipulates that the security of other countries should not be compromised.
He added that “in 2008, we proposed an agreement on European security, but it was rejected. Despite this, last year we continued our attempts through proposing two documents on security guarantees for Brussels and Washington, but they didn’t respond.”
Lavrov indicated that the West is putting pressure on many countries to stop cooperation with Russia, but it fails and this has disastrous results for him. He said that his country has real partners in BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation and other organizations.
