Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated that his country will continue to support Syria in its war on terrorism until its final elimination.
During a press conference with his Finnish counterpart Beca Ivko in Helsinki today, Lavrov underlined the need to eliminate terrorist organizations in Idlib, saying: “The issue of refugees cannot be exploited at the expense of continuing to combat terrorism in Syria and the solution of this issue will be through the implementation of the Sochi Agreements on Idlib.”
Moscow repeatedly announced that the Turkish regime did not implement its commitments according to the Sochi agreement on Idlib, which stresses the need to continue combating terrorism in Syria. The Sochi agreement is part of previous agreements on de-escalation areas and resulted from the Astana track, which has begun since the beginning of 2017. The Sochi agreement confirmed on commitment to Syria’s unity and territorial integrity and the liberation of all Syrian lands, either from terrorists or from any illegal foreign military presence.
Lavrov said that Russia participated in the war on terrorism in Syria at the request of the Syrian government, noting that some Western countries support terrorists and use them as a tool to achieve geopolitical agendas.
Russia is participating in the war on terrorism in support of the efforts of the Syrian Arab Army since the 13th of September 2015 at the request of the Syrian government, and during this period the terrorist organizations suffered heavy losses.
