Lavrov: Resolving crisis in Syria based on respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity

Riyadh, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated the need for reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria that respects its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Lavrov said in a press conference with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia,Faisal Bin Farhan in Riyadh on Wednesday that, they paid great attention to the situation in Syria and its unity and territorial integrity.

He reiterated that only the Syrian people  have the right to determine the future of their country without any foreign interference based on the UN Security Council resolution no. 2254.

Resolution 2254, which was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council in December 2015, affirms that the Syrians are the ones who determine the future of their country on their own, without any external interference, and that terrorist organizations are outside any political process.

Lavrov called for facilitating the return of the Syrian displaced people to their homeland and to reconstruct what has been destroyed by terrorism.

On the situation in Yemen, Lavrov called for a solution to the crisis in it through dialogue, expressing his concern about developments in the situation there.
