BAGHDAD, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has affirmed the need to eliminate the last hotbed of terrorism in Syria.
During a news conference on Monday after talks with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed al-Hakim in Baghdad, Lavrov stressed the necessity of providing suitable circumstances for the return of displaced Syrians to their areas and of completely eliminating terrorist hotbeds in Syria.
Moscow and Baghdad have a common approach to reducing tension in
the Gulf region.
“We have common positions on how to reduce tension in the Gulf region as we and our Iraqi friends believe that it is necessary to do that through the joint efforts of all players ,” Lavrov said.
For his part, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim stressed the need to increase trade exchange between Iraq and Russia, pointing out that Baghdad is looking forward to boosting cooperation with Moscow in the fields of energy, security, oil and gas.
