Lavrov: Preventing Western countries from establishing projects in Syria and Russia is outright politicization

Moscow (ST): Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denounced the Western countries’ ban for political reasons from establishing projects in a number of countries, including Syria and Russia, indicating that many countries have begun to realize the need to create a “safety net” to confront the policies of the West.

Lavrov said in his speech during an international forum organized by the Russian Federation of Industrialists and Businessmen in Moscow that “more countries are beginning to understand the need to create a (safety net) so that they do not depend on whims, unreliability and inability to negotiate with Westerners,” noting that ” Western countries, for political reasons, being the largest shareholder in the World Bank and other financial institutions, prevent projects not only in Russia but also in countries such as Syria,” describing this as “outright politicization that does not create a good reputation for the West.”

Lavrov indicated that Russia is working to build cooperation with many parties, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS countries.

Lavrov also drew attention to Moscow’s strengthening of its bilateral relations with the countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America and their regional unions, which also show an interest in partnership.
