MOSCOW, (ST) – The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that the situation in Syria in addition to the Iranian nuclear file and the Ukrainian crisis were at the top of the agenda of talks held yesterday in Vienna between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
According to “Russia Today” website, the ministry said that Lavrov and Kerry, delegated by the leaders of the two countries – Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama, discussed some issues connected with methods of solving the crisis in Syria peacefully and of fighting terrorism.
“Lavrov affirmed that there is no alternative for the political settlement which can be attained through cooperation between the Syrian national forces and the international communtiy on fighting terrorist organizations which seek destroying Syria and pose serious threat to regional and international peace,” the ministry added.
The ministry pointed out that Lavrov-Kerry talks also focused on Vienna negotiations to reach a comprehensive deal on the Iranian nuclear file; a deal that guarantees the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
On the Ukranian crisis, the ministry clarified that Lavrov referred to Kiev’s violation of “Misek”agreement through the Ukrainian forces’ continuous bombardment of Dunbas province and by the economic siege imposed on the area. He urged his US counterpart to do his best as to pressure Kiev to seek holding dialogue aiming to solve the crisis.
