MOSCOW- In a telephone conversation on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry discussed Russia’s proposals to hold joint operations in Syria against terrorists, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after a phone conversation initiated by the US, according to Itar Tass.
“The conversation focused on the situation around Syria, including Russia’s proposals to hold joint operations against active terrorist groups in the country and other illegal armed groups that have not joined the cessation of hostilities, as well as preventing gunmen and weapons from getting into Syria across the Turkish border,” the ministry said.
Lavrov once again pointed to a need for Washington’s fulfilling as soon as possible its pledge to set apart the US-backed Syrian “moderate opposition” from Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists, who are not covered by the cessation of hostilities, according to the ministry.
