Lavrov hopes that new round of Syrian constitutional talks will be held in Geneva soon

MOSCOW, (ST)_Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hopes that a new round of the meetings of the Committee of Discussing the Syrian Constitution in Geneva would be held soon.

Lavrov’s remarks were made during his talks with the UN Special Envoy for Syria ,Geir Pedersen, in Moscow on Thursday.

He said that this is a good opportunity to exchange views in this stage, noting that the stability being witnessed in Syria is not accompanied by the international community’s efforts to resolve the humanitarian issues and restore the infrastructure for the safe return of the Syrian refugees.

Lavrov hopes that the situation would become better after implementing UN Security council resolution No. 2585 on extending the cross-border humanitarian aid operation to Syria.

For his part, Pedersen believes that making progress in the political settlement for the crisis in Syria requires a common understanding to resolve the humanitarian issues in the country, referring to the international meetings he had held earlier about the situation in the county, praising the Russian support for his work.
