Lavrov: Conditions in Syria have been created to eliminating terrorism

 

Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov said Monday that a positive trend in the development of the situation in Syria is encouraging, noting that Conditions have been created for a prompt and final liquidation of a hotbed of terrorism in Syria, SANA reported.

Lavrov said at a reception marking the Islamic Hijra New Year that “the level of violence has sizably decreased in the four de-escalation zones” that have been created in Syria as a result to Astana talks with the participation of the guarantor countries including Russia, Iran , Turkey ,US, and Jordan, adding that “work has started there to restore destroyed facilities and social-economic infrastructure”.

Ahead of restart of the Geneva process, Lavrov announced that his country welcomes efforts by Saudi regime towards uniting the opposition.

 

In a relevant context, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the United states pretends combating ISIS terrorists in Syria , while its acts on ground prove the opposite, , calling on Washington to prove in practice its commitment to fighting terrorism in Syria.

Ryabkov said in statement to journalists that “This fact is evident and it is very worrisome, we were convinced yet again that the US side, declaring verbally that it is interested in eliminating Daesh and defeating terrorists in Syria, in practice demonstrates the opposite, that in the end of the day some political and geopolitical tasks are more important for Washington than what has been declared in the counterterrorist fight.”
