Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has appointed director department of the Middle East and North Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Kinshak as a special envoy for resolving crisis in Syria.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova declared in a press conference held today that Lavrov appointed Kinshak as the Minister’s special envoy for Syria.
She made it clear that the new task of Kinshak is to represent the Russian side in bilateral and multi-parties talks on settlement in Syria, including Geneva and Astana talks with the aim of reaching solution to the crisis in Syria.
Between 22 December 2014 and 29 October 2018 Kinshchak served as Russian ambassador to Syria. Since 30 November 2018 he has been director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
