Lavrov and Guterres discuss ways to solve the crisis in Syria

On February 9th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, by phone, ways to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria and lift unilateral economic sanctions to confront the Corona pandemic.

“The two sides exchanged views in detail on topical issues on the international agenda, including the solution in Syria, with an emphasis on the need to intensify international humanitarian aid without politicization, preconditions and tasks to combat the pandemic of the virus,” Sputnik quoted a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying.

The statement said that the Russian side stressed the importance of responding to Guterres’ call to suspend and ease the unilateral sanctions imposed amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
