Lavrov and bin Farhan discuss bilateral cooperation and developments in Syria and the region

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today discussed with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Cape Town, South Africa, bilateral cooperation between the two countries and developments in Syria, Sudan and Yemen.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov and bin Farhan reviewed during their meeting, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the BRICS group of countries in Cape Town, the positions of the two countries regarding urgent international and Middle Eastern issues, where the focus was on issues of resolving the situations in Sudan and Yemen, and resolving the crisis in Syria, taking into account that Syria has resumed its participation in the activities of the League of Arab States, in light of the decisions of the Arab summit held lately in Jeddah.

The statement added: The two sides also discussed issues of increasing cooperation between the two countries together to confirm the intention of Moscow and Riyadh to deepen political dialogue and strengthen coordination in the United Nations and other multilateral platforms.

The ministerial meeting of the BRICS group of countries, which includes five countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is being held in South Africa for today and tomorrow. The BRICS group was established in 2009.
