Lavrentiev: The US may suddenly withdraw from Syria

Moscow  (ST): The Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, called on the militias backed by the American occupation forces to hold  dialogue with the Syrian government, warning against the continued reliance on the United States, which could withdraw its forces from Syria at any moment, as it did in Afghanistan.

Lavrentiev indicated in a press statement that the SDF militia is currently counting on cooperation with the US, whose forces are located in its areas of deployment, and said that “the US can take a decision to withdraw its forces from Syria suddenly, as it did in Afghanistan.”

Lavrentiev added that former US President Donald Trump made the decision to withdraw from Syria, which was reviewed and simply postponed indefinitely, noting that this withdrawal could happen at any time.

He pointed out that the Iraqis told Russia that Baghdad was determined to get the American military unit out of the country, and said, “If this happens and the American battalion leaves Iraq, maintaining it in Syria will simply become impossible due to logistical difficulties.”

Lavrentiev stressed the need for this militia to go to dialogue with the Syrian government, which would contribute to reaching solutions that would help get out of the crisis.
