Lavrentiev: Summit of leaders of the guarantor states of the Astana process during the summer or the end of this year

Moscow (ST): The Russian President’s special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, announced that the summit of heads of state of the guarantor states of the Astana process on Syria (Russia, Iran and Turkey) might be held this summer or the end of this year.

RIA Novosti news agency quoted Lavrentiev as saying: “If it is possible to hold the summit before the end of next August, then this is one of the possible options, but there may be an option to postpone it to a later date at the end of this year”.

Lavrentiev had announced yesterday that the guarantor countries had not yet agreed on a specific proposal on the date of the next meeting of their leaders, indicating that the Iranian partners had expressed their willingness to host the meeting.
