Lattakia Governor discusses with Russian delegation cooperation programs

The Governor of Lattakia Amer Hilal and the delegation of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Governorate in the Russian Federation, headed by Peter Vitalyevich Pannikov, the Deputy Governor, discussed possible areas and programs of cooperation between the two governorates, in the light of the strong relations betweent Syria and the Russian Federation and the two friendly peoples.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed programs related to the health, cultural, economic and education sectors, the possibility of opening medical centers in Lattakia, and performing qualitative ophthalmic surgeries by specialists from the Russian province.

The talks also dealt with strengthening scientific cooperation with Tishreen University and the sector of education, exchanging visits and experiences, developing cooperation in the agricultural field and opening Russian companies in Syria, including baby milk factory, in addition to exporting fruits from Lattakia to Nizhny Novgorod Governorate.

The discussions also included increasing humanitarian aid, medical devices and medicines, as well as transferring them to hospitals in Lattakia in the light of the shortage of equipment and medicines the health sector suffers from as a result of the sanctions and the unjust economic blockade imposed on the Syrian people.

Also, the governor of Lattakia confirmed in a statement to reporters after the discussions , that the visit of the Russian delegation comes within the framework of preparing for the signing of a number of agreements, including a memorandum of joint cooperation between the two provinces, and a twinship agreement between the cities of Lattakia and Dzerzhinsk for the benefit of the two friendly countries. He expressed the Syrian people’s thanks for the great and continuous support that they received from the government and people of Russia , especially that it played a key role in the war against terrorism , in addition to the efforts put to confront the repercussions of the earthquake in Syria.

Finally on his part , Banikov indicated that the main objective of the visit is to discuss ways to develop cooperation and joint relations between the two provinces in various economic, tourism, cultural, health and political fields, explaining that the relations between the two countries have for long been based on mutual respect, and they are a continuation of the strong fraternal relations since the era of the Soviet Union. He stressed the need to provide all possible support to the Syrian people to overcome the adversity left by the terrorist war and the earthquake.
