Lattakia and Tartous ports take Precautionary Measures to confront Coronavirus

In the framework of preventive measures to confront Coronavirus, the Directorate of Lattakia Port in cooperation with the health quarantine Center of Lattakia’s Health Directorate continue to follow up implementing precautionary measures to address the epidemic Corona virus.

Amjad Suleiman, Director General of Lattakia port told SANA correspondent that sterilization operations are daily carried out on all buildings, facilities, vehicles and public squares in the port in addition to the disinfection of the ships and the cadres according to the rules recommended by the concerned bodies.

In turn Dr. Mualla Ibrahim, the Director of the health quarantine Center at the port said that 11 ships have been sterilized recently, indicating that the Health Directorate stresses the importance of carrying out safety procedures for all workers in the center, including clothes, to ensure safety for them and their surroundings.

Eng. Wannous reviewed all the procedures for sterilizing ships, as instructions are given to stop the ship outside the port in an area called “the waiting area” where a team from the port, the health quarantine center, and a well-qualified sterilization workshop disinfect the ship internally and externally with the examination of its crew with special thermostats. They are then granted permission to conduct commercial work in the port. Eng. Wanous made it clear that among the measures taken after the ships enter the port berth, sterilization materials are put at the ships’ entrance to unload their cargo by the workers who wear protective gloves and masks with their commitment to procedures of Public safety .

He underlined that Tartous port movement continues, as during March, 39 ships entered the port carrying on their boards various food items such as sugar and wheat in addition to wood and iron.

A member of the sterilization workshop in the port Ammar Yousef stressed that all precautionary and safety measures are taken to prevent the spread of Corona virus and avoid infection, as the complete sterilization of the vessel in all its parts is carried out continuously, in addition to conducting a regular examination of its crew and strict adherence to wearing protective equipment which contribute to the full immunization of the virus.
