Larijani Calls on Governments to Stop Assisting ISIS Terrorists

Iranian Majlis Speaker issued a statement on Wednesday urging international organizations and all the governments to make efforts to stop financial support and arms aid to ISIS terrorists in Iraq.

The statement comes following Iraqi government’s call for practical measures by the international community to oppose atrocities perpetrated by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

In his statement, Larijani who is also the rotating head of the OIC Inter-Parliamentary Union, said although holding national election throughout Iraq has drawn promising prospects for progress of democracy in the country and the whole region, the extremist groups are seeking to undermine the democratic trend by reliance on weapons and intimidation and perpetrating crimes against humanity.

Larijani said they have seized parts of the country and want to replace the democratic process with violence and bloodshed.

The international community, including the United Nations and all the individuals and governments with sense of responsibility to the international peace should respond to Iraqi government’s call for taking practical measures to stop arms shipment and any financial assistance for the terrorist, the statement said.

It referred to extremist and terrorist groups as a regional threat, citing acts of terror in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.

He Added that terrorism has nothing to do with democracy and the democratic process or the structure of power, but, rather the terrorists and Takfiris are seeking anarchy in the countries and are actually enemies of democracy.

The statement called on the Islamic parliaments to make every effort to support democracy in the region and defend the innocent people against extremism.

Iran concerned over spread of terrorism, says Afkham

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Wednesday that Tehran feels great concern over insecurity, spread of terrorism and terrorist attacks against world countries.

Speaking at her weekly press conference, she made the remarks when asked about next probable targets of Daesh (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) terrorist group that is taking over Iraq.

The terrorist group had earlier threatened that Lebanon would be the next target of its terrorist attacks.

Terrorism is currently being used as an instrument to influence people’s votes, Afhkam said.

She added, ˈThis is a source of deep concern that terrorism is being used as a means by its organizers as well as certain countries and circles to achieve their vicious goals in the region through causing insecurity, disturbing democratic procedures, dominating ballot booths as well as imposing force, weapons and terror instead of democratic trends.ˈ

She stressed that spread of terrorism in the region has always been a source of great concern.

Noting that terrorism would not be limited to a certain place, she added Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and many other countries have already been targeted by terrorist attacks.

West must take honest approach towards terrorism, says  Jalali,

In the same context, the western governments should take an honest approach towards terrorism, Kazem Jalali, the co-chairman of Iran-EU Parliamentary Friendship Group said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with French deputy director of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs Commission Odile Saugues.

Referring to the Zionist regimeˈs nuclear weapons and its oppressive behavior against the Palestinians, Jalali noted that West should give up double-standard approach towards countriesˈ rights for peaceful use of nuclear energy as well as the violation of human rights in different countries.

He underlined that spread of terrorism is a threat to the world security.

The Western governments support the crimes against humanity perpetrated by terrorists in Syria and in the meantime, advocate the crackdown on Bahraini political activists, Jalali added.

He asserted that terrorist actions in Iraq and Syria account for crimes against humanity.

Warning about increase of production of drugs in Afghanistan, he noted that Europe has become one of the major destinations for the Afghan drugs.

He said that hundreds of Iranian police officers were killed in fight against drug traffickers, adding that the international community must extend assistance to the campaign against drug-trafficking.

He expressed outrage at the western governments policies about the nuclear dispute with the Islamic Republic of Iran and said that Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities are under the complete supervision of IAEA, but, the western governments are using the dispute to put pressure on Iran.

He criticized the western governments for supporting certain regional countries well-known for their totalitarian regimes regarding them as their strategic friends.

Jalali noted that Iran believes in holding a referendum as the best way to resolve Palestinian issue.

The ˈtwo-state, two-nationˈ solution is not a good idea because Zionist regime has never honored its obligations since its formation, he said.

The French National Assembly member for her part praised Iran’s positive approach in the nuclear negotiations.

She hoped for a win-win agreement between Tehran and G5+1 in the upcoming nuclear talks.

Saugues expressed deep concern over the Iraqi crisis, adding that the international community should show determination in its fight against terrorism.

A delegation from French National Assembly members, led by Saugues arrived in Tehran on Tuesday.
