GENEVA,(ST)_Mohammad Jehad al-Lahham has underscored necessity of unifying developing countries’ efforts to fortify their sovereignty and develop their capabilities to defend their peoples’ interests.
The Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament], who was speaking in a meeting with a delegation from Uruguay Senate on the sidelines of the 131st session of the International Parliament Union’s General Assembly, referred to the role of the South America states in curbing the US policy towards world peoples and states.
He discussed with the Uruguay delegation, Parliamentary relations between the two countries, situation in the Middle East and trans-boundary terrorism.
“Eradicating trans-boundary terrorism requires a comprehensive strategy in which all countries must take part and starts with combatting the extremist Takfiri thought and settling internal problems and conflicts through dialogue and draining terrorism resources,” al-Lahham said.
HRC condemns assassination of MP Waris al-Younis
On the other hand, the Parliamentarians’ Human Rights Committee condemned the assassination of the Syrian MP Waris al-Younis, saying that the assassination violates the committee’s principles.
Yesterday, the MP al-Younis was martyred when terrorists opened fire at his car on Hama-Salameyeh road.
