Lahham, Larijani: Halting Terrorism in Syria
TEHRAN,(ST)_Parliament Speaker Mohammed Jihad al- Lahham and his Iranian peer Ali Larijani discussed yesterday bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation and preparations for the 9th session of the Conference of the OIC member states Union of Parliaments .
The two sides stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary work, and activate joint coordination in the interest of both countries and peoples and region and Islamic countries .
The two sides condemned the terrorist practices carried out by armed terrorist groups , targeting innocent civilians and the infrastructure in Syria , stressing the need to put pressure on countries that support terrorists to refrain from supporting , harboring and providing facilities for them .
Both sides also stressed the need to stop violence , extremism and terrorism in Syria and to work on a political solution based on dialogue between the Syrians themselves and away from foreign intervention .
Lahham talked about the risks imposed on Syria since three years ago of a global terrorist war involving terrorists from 83 countries , explaining that” they are systematically targeting innocent people , and all the country ‘s institutions and infrastructure in order to weaken the Syrian state and the resistance axis in the service of the American-Zionist project aimed at fragmenting the region and plundering its resources .”
He stressed that the Syrian government is serious in the fight against terrorism , and to re-build what was destroyed by the terrorist , as well as to provide Geneva Conference 2 a success , adding that: ” the other party to the Geneva Conference 2 ” coalition ” do not represent the Syrians .”
He pointed to the achievements of the Syrian Army against terrorism and terrorists , stressing that Syria will triumph, thanks to its wise leadership , brave army , cohesion of its people and support of its friends .
He thanked Iran government and people for their support to Syria in the face of the unjust war, noting “ we look forward to the OIC union conference 9th session to come out with recommendations and resolutions in support of Syria .”
From his part, Larijani renewed his country’s position in support of Syria in the face of the war, explaining that ” Syria is in the front line of resistance , paying the price for rejecting foreign dictates and ” praised the victories of the Syrian army in the field, pointing out that ” the wisdom of the Syrian leadership will fail all conspiracies . “
Lahham also met with Lebanese Parliament speaker Nabih Berri and the two sides discussed topics on the agenda of the conference and the need for concerted efforts by Muslim countries to combat terrorism and extremism which threaten Arab and Muslim peoples and the security and stability of the region and the world.
The two sides underlined the important role played by Islamic parliaments in defending Muslim people causes, foremost being the cause of Palestine and in perpetuating true Islamic values.
