Khamenei: US plans to target Syria and countries of the region have failed

Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Seyyed Ali Khamenei has stressed that the United States has spent billions of dollars to target Syria and other countries in the region because of their principled stances, but the US plans have failed.

“The western colonialist front has adopted a special policy towards west Asia region due to its importance, mainly in terms of oil which is very important for the development of industry in the west. Before launching the aggression on Iran, the United States decided to target some countries, including Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Libya and others as they form the strategic depth of the Islamic Republic of Iran and this plan was revealed by the Americans themselves in 2006,” Khamenei clarified.

The enemy seeks to control the minds by spreading lies, said Khamenei during a meeting on Saturday with a group of popular mobilization forces in Iran.

“Your duty today is to recognize your power, get to know your enemies and discover the weak points of the enemy, who is trying to show that it is strong,” he added.

“The United States hoped that through the nuclear deal Iran will be prevented from producing weapons to defend itself. We implemented our obligations pursuant to the nuclear deal, but the United States didn’t,” he went on to say, stressing that “America wants the Iranian people to give up all their red lines.”

Khamenei explained that Iran’s battle is not with a group of rioters who have recently wreaked havoc in the country, stressing that “the main confrontation is with the global hegemony”.

“These few people are either oblivious, ignorant, or mercenaries,” the Khamenei said, clarifying the recent riots are part of the West’s pressure on Iran to compromise on its rights in negotiations.
