Moscow (ST): The International Forum of the Convention Concerning Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage on Tuesday continued its activities in the city of Kazan, Russia. A symposium titled the “Great Silk Road” was held with the participation of a Syrian delegation led by Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mshaweh, and representatives of the Silk Road countries.
In her speech, Minister Mshaweh stressed that the Silk Road linked the civilizations and cultures of peoples and affected each of them in various aspects of cultural, material and immaterial life. It was embodied in architecture, inscriptions, customs, rituals, myths, beliefs and languages, which allowed for the existence of common denominators among the peoples of these countries, calling for focusing on these denominators, highlighting them and working to revive the Silk Road for its cultural and economic importance.
For her part, Director of the Intangible Heritage at the Ministry of Culture, Eng. Rola Aqili, praised Syria’s role as a meeting place for the intangible human heritage on the Silk Road.
In the opening session of the conference, which was held on Palmyra and the restoration of the Arc de Triomphe, Dr. Mshaweh affirmed Syria’s keenness to restore this monument, as it represents a symbol of the Syrian identity and civilization.
