Kazakhstan comments on the new round of Astana talks

Nur-Sultan (ST): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Toloberdi, announced that the new round of talks by the foreign ministers of the guarantor states of the Astana process “Russia, Turkey and Iran” on Syria has not yet been confirmed.

Toloberdi said in a statement to reporters today: “The meeting of the foreign ministers of the guarantor states of the talks on Syria has not yet been confirmed, and so far it is scheduled to take place at the usual level, that is, deputy ministers.”

Toloberdi added that the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, has not yet confirmed his participation in the meeting in Nur-Sultan, but it is likely that he will.

The Astana meetings began in the Kazakh capital at the beginning of 2017, and 16 meetings were held, one of them in the Russian city of Sochi, and in all, they emphasized the firm commitment to preserving Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and continuing the war against terrorist organizations in it until its final defeat.
