Kazakh Senate Chairman: Astana Talks Unique Opportunity to End Crisis in Syria

 ASTANA, (ST)- Chairman of the Kazakh Senate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev believes that Astana talks on Syria provides a positive opportunity to put an end to the crisis in the country.

Meeting a Canadian parliamentary delegation on Friday in the Kazakh capital Astana, Tokayev said “the talks will be a unique opportunity to end the crisis in Syria, start a political solution and launch reconstruction in the country.”

“The international community should provide full support for these talks,” he stressed, pointing out that his country is ready to prepare circumstances necessary to make them a success.

 In the same context, a source at the Kazakh Foreign Ministry uncovered  today that more than 300 journalists have announced willingness to cover the Astana talks event and more than 300 foreign reporters representing 24 countries have sent applications for coverage purpose.

The Astana talks are due to be held on Monday to help find political settlement to the crisis in Syria.
