Karla Quintana: We will cooperate intensively with Syria to uncover the fate of missing persons

Karla Quintana, President of the Foundation for the Missing in Syria, confirmed the intensive cooperation in Syria to find out and determine the fate of missing persons in the country. She described what recently happened in the country and the downfall of the former regime as a pivotal moment in the ongoing quest of Syrians for truth and justice.

Quintana said in press release reported by the United Nations News Center: “The task of the Foundation is to clarify the fate and whereabouts of all missing persons in Syria regardless of their nationality, group, ethnicity, political affiliation, or the reasons and circumstances surrounding their disappearance, and to provide appropriate support to the families of the missing.”

She noting that the Foundation is committed to working and coordinating with all relevant parties, including the interim authorities, member states, international organizations, and most importantly, the families of the missing and civil society.

Quintana explained the need to protect and preserve records, information, data and important sites, such as burial sites, noting that even well-intentioned actions can unintentionally damage these sources.
