Kanaani: The presence of the US forces in Syria is illegal

Tehran (ST) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani reiterated that the presence of the US forces in Syria is considered as an occupation as it is an illegal measure.

Kanaani stated on Monday that: “No action can be taken in Syria apart from the opinion of its people and government”, stressing that the US must respond to the Syrian government’s request to withdraw from its territories and stop plundering its wealth.

Kanaani considered that some countries’ establishing their own relations with Iran or improving these relations and the willingness of other countries to conduct dialogue with Iran are a result of the dynamic performance of the Iranian government’s foreign policy.

He added: “Iran has no restrictions on developing relations with different countries. With regard to Europe, we have never had an exclusionary point of view, and we are ready to hold talks and cooperate with any country that wishes to cooperate with Iran on the basis of mutual respect.”

“Iran wants the best relations with the Iraqi people and government, and that the security of Iraq is important to Iran and we believe that the presence of terrorists in the northern Iraqi region doesn’t serve the interests of both countries,” Kanaani said regarding the relations with Iraq.
