Kamel Wazne to ST: US Intervention in Iran’s Internal Affairs Contradicts International Law

A Beirut-based Political and Economic analyst has affirmed that the U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to intervene in Iran’s internal affairs is a flagrant assault on the independence of a free nation.

In a statement to the Syriatimes e-newspaper, Kamel Wazne said: “President Trump’s decision to intervene in Iran and support the anarchy and disorder there contradicts international law and disrespects the sovereignty of a the Iranian state. It is also a flagrant assault on the independence of a free nation.”

The U.S. president tweeted yesterday: “Such respect for the people of Iran as they try to take back their [corrupt] government. You will see great support from the United States at the appropriate time!”

Wazne asserted that Trump’s comments on Iran will not be able to persuade or convince the Iranian people to change their support for the Islamic Republic and its leadership.

“Trump administration’s failure to comply with the nuclear agreement deal to remove the sanctions against Iran, and the decision by the United States to prevent foreign companies from Investment in Iran is part of the war that the United States is waging to weaken and cripple the Iranian livelihood,” he added.

The political analyst pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been under American sanctions since the first day of the Revolution in 1979, and despite that Iran has managed to deal with this financial and economic pressure.

“Part of protests and chaos, took place  in Iran few days ago, was orchestrated by international intelligence agencies, while the other part had legitimate demands to which Iran promised to find a solution,” Wazne added.

He concluded by saying: “In the end, this protest failed to achieve its goal in destabilizing Iran and it has become under control by the Iranian government. From day one, the American intention was all along to destabilize and change the regime in Iran.”
