DAMASCUS, (ST)- The terror attacks that have been carried out in Syria by the terrorist takfiri groups and their operators aim to increase the suffering of the Syrians and to impede efforts aiming to end the crisis in Syria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Wednesday, stressing that some countries’ justifying of the crimes perpetrated by the terrorist groups in Syria is no longer acceptable under whatever pretext.
Two terrorist bombings on Wednesday hit the old Justice Palace in Damascus and a restaurant in the outskirts of the city.
Addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council in two identical letters dealing with the two explosions, the ministry said the terror acts come as the terrorist organizations continue to target Damascus residential neighborhoods with tens of rockets and mortar shells, killing and wounding many civilians and causing huge damage to public and private properties.
Attempt to Impede settlement
“These attacks came as a response by the terrorists and their masters in Ankara, Riyadh, Doha and other capitals to the victories being achieved by the Syrian army and its allies in the battle against Daesh, Jabhat al-Nusra and their affiliated groups in different Syrian areas. They aim to increase the suffering of the Syrians and impede efforts to put an end to the crisis in Syria,” the ministry added.
It pointed out that the terrorist blasts coincided with the meetings being held in Astana and Geneva aiming to find a solution to the crisis.
Some parties doesn’t distance themselves from terrorists
According to the ministry, some parties taking part in the Astana and Geneva talks haven’t distanced themselves from the terrorist organizations and this provides a clear evidence of the fateful connection between these parties and the terrorists who committed these coward crimes. In addition, Blocking a Security Council statement condemning the terrorist attacks targeting the Syrian people by some western states, comes as a message to the terrorists to continue their criminal acts and also a message to terrorism sponsors to continue their support for terrorism that poses threat to international peace and security and hampers political settlement efforts.
“It is no longer acceptable to see some countries justifying the savage crimes of the terrorist organizations in Syria under whatever pretext. Besides, the lack of support for the Syrian government’s efforts in fighting terrorism can only be explained as an attempt to support terrorism and its sponsors,” the ministry said.
UNSC Condemnation needed
The ministry went on to say that the Syrian government urges the UN chief and the security council to clearly condemn today’s terror acts and to not provide cover to the perpetrators as well as the governments and regimes that back the terrorists.
Syria is looking forward to unifying the international community’s efforts as to fight terrorism in complete coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government, the ministry added.
