Concluding the Junior International Chamber ‘s ( JCI) conference , which was held via internet, a new achievement is recorded for the JCI in Syria in general and the JCI in Tartous in particular, by achieving the first place at the local level in Africa and the Middle East, in addition to the award of the best global development project.
President of the JCI in Tartous Mary Al-Hassan said that the JCI winning project is the only project in Syria which won the award of the best global development project in Africa and the Middle East.
Al-Hassan pointed out that the project was based on the urgent need to raise the community’s awareness of the importance of adolescents’ role on the ground and enhance their self-confidence and ability to achieve positive change in their societies in various fields.
She underlined that the project aims to highlight the capabilities of adolescents, in addition to providing a platform for families of successful adolescents to share the community supporting their children.
President of the JCI in Tartous Al-Hassan indicated that the sustainability of this project was by providing development opportunities for these adolescents to have real experiences with the aim of achieving positive change within their community through launching the JCI’s Potentials Program.
The program set-up by the global growth development project, according to Al-Hassan, included various training activities which were carried out within a special program entitled “ Presentation Skills “ . This program aims at empowering adolescents to express their ideas and projects .
The program’s activities also included training on effective leadership as 30 adolescents have become 30 leaders within their community in cooperation with the JCI, carry out training activities to introduce sustainable development goals, in addition to training on launching youth initiatives with the aim of enabling adolescents to learn the basics of starting any project.
Al-Hassan pointed out that the project seeks to secure a friendly space for young people to meet together , express their ideas and problems and share their experiences with their counterparts .
She explained that the criteria for selecting participants in the project requires choosing 10-18 –year old adolescents and each of them should have a previous academic or practical success story which depends on a talent or distinction in different fields.
