“Journey of Nostalgia” exhibition revives old heritage

The House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Association held on Sunday at the Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh a collective exhibition entitled ”  Journey of Nostalgia”.

The exhibition included  35 paintings made by 24 young artists using oil-acrylic techniques besides carvings, pottery works and others.

 

Reem Kabtan, the organizer of the exhibition, who displayed 2 portraits, said to Syria Times: “In this exhibition, we wanted to highlight the ancient heritage of handicrafts as some of them no longer exist.”

“We want to acquaint young generation with our ancient heritage…The title of the exhibition “Journey of Nostalgia”  means nostalgia for our past heritage and the ancient Damascene handicrafts,” Kabtan added.

Artist Siham Muhaisen showed a portrait of an old tailor with an old sewing machine.

She  said: “The exhibition is a good opportunity to honor this authentic past and show the life of our ancestors and various ideas.”

Participant artist Abeer Al Oudat displayed 3 paintings reflecting the Ajami handmade art. She mixed decoration with Arabic calligraphy .

“The paintings reflect our rich Damascene heritage, and this exhibition is a chance to enhance the collective work,” Al Oudat said.

Another participant Rana Taha, displayed 2 paintings depicting old Damascus, the bookseller and the  pharmacy of Bimaristan al-Nuri, which was the first pharmacy in Syria.

 For his part Muhammad Nour Arar, displayed one painting on the craft of ironing.

” I want to show this important craft which is part of our heritage,” he stated, pointing out that the goal of his participation in the exhibition is to gain more experience from the works of the other participants.
