Journalists’ Union condemns the Ukrainian regime’s targeting of journalists

Damascus, (ST) – The Union of Journalists condemned the Ukrainian regime’s targeting of a media team from the Russian Novosti Agency which resulted in the death of the agency’s correspondent, Rostislav Zhuravlyov and the injury of three other journalists.

The Union indicated in a statement that this targeting is condemned and contrary to international norms and covenants that affirm the protection of journalists in areas of armed conflict. It pointed out that targeting journalists is an old Ukrainian approach, as it is not the first time that this US-run regime has targeted Russian journalists.

The Union renewed the solidarity of Syrian journalists with their Russian colleagues. It recalled the direct targeting of Syrian journalists by terrorist organizations, which led to the death of a large number of them and the injury of others while they were conveying their journalistic message and conveying facts to the local and international audiences.

The Union also called on Arab, regional and international press and media organizations to condemn this crime and this method of dealing with journalists, and to demand their safety in areas witnessing military operations.
