Jordanian merchants welcome an expanded list of goods permitted to be imported from Syria

Amman (ST): The Jordanian Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the Jordanian government’s decision to expand the list of goods permitted to be imported from Syria and called for it to be further expanded to enhance trade exchanges between the two countries.

The Jordanian Petra Agency quoted the Chamber’s Chairman, Na’el Al-Kabariti, as saying in a press statement that Syria is an important gateway to import and reduce shipping costs and other financial burdens on traders and importers due to its geographical location.

Al-Kabariti referred to recent visits by Jordanian merchants to Damascus to participate in many exhibitions such as leather, clothing and industrial equipment, which showed high quality and competitive prices to those imported by Jordan from other countries.

Al-Kabariti added that the decision will contribute to reducing import costs, especially those related to shipping, and reducing the time periods for goods to arrive, indicating that the consumer is the primary beneficiary of the decision as it guarantees the availability of goods and commodities in the local market at reduced prices.
