Jordanian Army Deploys Forces near Borders with Syria after ISIS Attack
AMMAN, (ST)- The Jordanian army has deployed forces near the borders with Syria almost a week after an ISIS terrorist attack targeted Jordanian border guards killing seven of them, Jordanian media sources announced on Saturday.
The Jordanian “Khaberni” website cited local sources in the north of the kingdom as saying that “the northeastern area witnessed movement of military convoys, believed to be for the Jordanian army, near the borders with Syria.”
The reinforcement included military armored vehicles and different kinds of weapons, the sources said.
The website posted photos and videos showing military convoys of armored vehicles in a desert area similar to the area that extends along the eastern side of the Syrian-Jordanian borders.
On June 21st , the Jordanian army’s chief of staff Mish’al Mohammad al-Zein declared the northern and northeastern border area a closed military zone after six Jordanian border guards were killed and 14 others were injured in a car bomb attack that targeted a military post near Rukban camp on the Syrian-Jordanian border.
“Any vehicle and personnel movement within these areas that move without prior coordination will be treated as enemy targets and dealt with firmly and without leniency,” the Jordanian army statement said.
