Joint Syrian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce

Damascus, (ST) – Syrian and Iraqi Federations of Chambers of Commerce on Tuesday signed a protocol to establish a joint Syrian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce to support and promote economic relations and coordination to increase the volume of trade, investment and to brief businessmen, businesswomen and investors, economic and investment potentials available in both countries to work on developing economic relations.

  The Presidents of the two Federations Mohammed Ghassan al Qalla’ and Jafar Rasoul al–Hamdan signed the protocol. The protocol provides for opening markets for the products of the Syrian and Iraqi exports and working on the development of quality of the exported products through exhibitions, exchange of marketing propaganda and disseminating awareness about the laws and regulations in force in the two countries relating to economic and investment activities and about the privileges granted to investors. The protocol also provides for activating the exchange of visits of businessmen and to facilitate the granting of visas to citizens of both countries.

 ”We will hold joint sessions to map out an integrated agenda to take off work quickly, noting that Iraqi businessmen have the determination to activate and develop trade exchange between the two countries”,president of the Syrian-Iraqi Chamber Jhakir Sadeq Abbas said after the signing of the protocol.

 For his part, President of the Syrian-Iraqi Chamber Mohamad al Ish said that the chambers “will hold meetings to put the executive program for the activation of the work for the benefit of both countries.”

 Minister of State for Organizations Affairs Salwa Abdullah, Presidents of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and businessmen from both countries attended the signing ceremony.

  Earlier, the Syrian and Iraqi Chambers of Commerce signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening relations between the two parties on issues of common interest and to strengthen cooperation in the field of foreign trade.
