Joint scientific meeting and Syrian-Russian documentary exhibition at the Syrian Geographical Society in Damascus

Participants in the joint scientific meeting held on Saturday by representatives of the Syrian and Russian geographical societies discussed relations of cooperation between the two sides in the next stage. The meeting also shed light on the possibility of contributing to the reconstruction process and establishing joint activities in Syria during the coming period. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Syrian Geographical Society in Damascus.

 

The meeting included a documentary exhibition of the Syrian and Russian geographical societies, with paintings, photographs and maps of the most important monuments and archaeological sites in the two countries. The exhibition also included a three-dimensional artistic presentation of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Dr. Osama Kaddour, President of the Syrian Geographical Society and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters at Damascus University, said in a statement to SANA that this meeting comes within a series of joint Syrian-Russian cultural activities that started at the beginning of this month. The aim of the meeting is to brief the two friendly peoples on the civilization of the two countries.

The first director of the geography subject in the Ministry of Education, Shehadeh Al-Mohammed, Vice President of the Society, highlighted the importance of exchanging geographical information between the two countries. He pointed out that the documentary exhibition and other cultural activities will be held during the coming period in the Russia.

Irina Shishkna and Maria Redkina, representatives of the Russian Geographical Society, underlined the importance of consolidating cultural and popular relations between the two countries and organizing joint activities. They stressed that geography is an important science that has a major role in the lives of countries. Syria needs more support in the reconstruction phase, which requires a lot of efforts and capital either at the level of public authorities or at the level of civil society, they added.

The Syrian Geographical Society is a scientific and cultural association founded in 1956 with the aim of spreading geographical thought and information about Syria and the world by organizing lectures and cultural, historical, literary and intellectual seminars and communicating through a cultural protocol with many Arab and foreign geographical societies and organizing activities and events in this context.
