Jaish,Wahda to take part in WABC

 DAMASCUS,(ST)-Jaish and Wahda clubs are due to take part in the West Asia Basketball Championship which will be staged in Iran.

The event runs from 7 through 15 April.

Despite the fact that both teams  will participate in the said event ,they did not hold training sessions with local or neighboring clubs .

It is to be noted also that both squads did not include professional players as the other teams which will participate in the event did.

However,Lebanese clubs are excluded from participating in the event upon a decision released recently by the International Basketball Federation.

On Jaish’s preparation for participating in the event,ObaiDuwaji,the technical manager,said:”actually, our preparations did not live up to expectations where we played some friendlies against underdog clubs from 2nd and 3rd divisions .Furtheremore,there is only one week left.We are currently focusing in our training sessions on physical fitness,defense and offense plans and individual tactics,”.

The five countries which an OK to compete in the event are:Iran,Iraq,Jordan,Palestine and Syria.

Jaish and Wahda(Syria),Petrochemi and Mehram(Iran),Applies Sciences and Ittihad Schools(Jordan),Kahraba(Iraq) and Rasmla (Palestine).

The participating teams will play according to the round-robin format in the opreliminary round.
