Jableh National Hospital Resumes Services

LATTAKIA– The Jableh National Hospital has resumed its medical services after a week-long stop  because of  the massive damage the hospital sustained in a terrorist suicide attack last Monday.  The hospital resumed services after restoration and repair works were completed, according to SANA.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the hospital’s emergency department, claiming the lives of several people, injuring others and causing massive material damage to the building and ambulances.

The entire emergency department was damaged in the attack, along with some other sections mainly the operating department.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Dr. Ammar Ghannam, Head of Lattakia Health Directorate, said the damaged sections have been completely rehabilitated and the medical equipment has been repaired or replaced and that now the medical, nursing and administrative staffs are ready to receive patients.

He added that work is underway to rehabilitate the emergency department so that to bring it back into service in the next ten days, noting that the Directorate has temporarily employed the First Health Center in the city of Jableh as an emergency center, which has been equipped with three ambulances with full medical equipment and nursing staff.

On May 24th, the Cabinet approved an amount of SYP 500 million for embarking on the project of the new national hospital in Jableh city.

The project will include rehabilitating the damaged parts of the hospital’s building and constructing another compound. Some SYP 350 million will be given in funds for starting the project immediately.
