Jabbour Condemns Calls by US State Department Officials for Carrying Out Military Strikes against Syrian Army
DAMASCUS, (ST)-President of the United Nations Association of Syria, Dr. George Jabbour has stressed that the call by US State Department officials on the US President Barack Obama “to carry out military strikes against Syrian army positions” uncover a regrettable fact proving that the American diplomats don’t respect the principles of their job.
Jabbour, the former independent expert at the UN Human Rights Council, said in a statement to SANA that the “call contradicts diplomatic norms because diplomats should realize that solutions to crises can only be achieved through diplomacy not through wars.”
He noted that that the call coincides with the visit of the deputy Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia to the United States and some sees that “such a call at this timing aims at boosting the financial blackmailing policy America is practicing towards the Saudi regime.”
Jabbour stressed the need for holding an international conference on Security and cooperation in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region to discuss topics like combating terrorism and dangers threatening energy resources in the region.
The Russian Defense Ministry voiced concern over media reports saying that officials of the US Department of State have called on the Obama administration to start bombing the Syrian army’s positions.
Official spokesman for the ministry Igor Konashenkov said on Friday “If these reports have at least a touch of truth, and such important issues in the US State Department are indeed solved by the vote of the ‘workforce’ then this cannot but arouse concern of any man of sense.”
