Jaafari: Turkish army Covered, Facilitated Terrorist Attack on the Syrian-Turkish Border in Kasab

NEWYORK,(ST)_ In two identical letters yesterday to the UN Secretary- General and President of the UN Security Council, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar Jaafari said:” In line of our letters extended to you about the terrorist activities carried out by al-Qaeda affiliated groups and terrorist entities in Syria and the direct involvement of the Turkish government in supporting these activities, and on the instructions of the Syrian government I would like to bring your attention to the following:

In the continued efforts of some countries in the region and beyond to thwart the political solution to the crisis in Syria, and resorting to violence and terrorism as an option, armed terrorist groups –mostly associated to the two of al-Nusra front and the Army of Islam ” terrorists yesterday morning infiltrated through the Turkish territory and attacked the Syrian side of the Syrian-Turkish border in Kasab area, in the northern province of Latakia and when the Syrian army units confronted the attack, the Turkish army supported this terrorist attack by providing it with logistical and military facilities.

“This Turkish position reflects a continued terrorism supporting role carried out by Turkey in the region and support for terrorist associated  organizations, regardless of names, and violates the principles of the international law and the provisions of the UN Charter, the foundations furnished for friendly and good neighborly relations between states,” Jaafari said.

He continued that the Turkish authorities facilitation for thousands of terrorists, extremists and foreign mercenaries from around the world to cross the border to Syria and provide them with money and weapons and all forms of direct support, is a flagrant violation of international laws on counter-terrorism and the UN Security Council relevant resolutions, especially resolutions 1267/1999, 1373/2001 and 1624/2005, on the need of all UN member states to refrain from providing any form of active or passive support, funding or facilities to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts.

“The Syrian Government calls on the UN Security Council to condemn this terrorist attack on Syrian territory from Turkey and compel the Turkish authorities to refrain from providing any form of support explicit and implicit for terrorist activities in Syria, carried out by al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist groups at the support of the Arab, regional and Western countries”, Jaafari emphasized.

“Syria reiterates that doubled- standard policy in dealing with terrorism that targets Syrian state and people would thwart the political solution efforts and lead to the expansion of terrorism to other countries, especially neighboring countries which arm and train terrorists  and facilitate their illegal transit to Syria and undermine security and stability in the region and the world” Jaafari concluded.
